Baseball earns split at Everett behind Uemoto’s quality start in nightcap

EVERETT – Edmonds baseball was able to come away from Funko Field with an important split against Everett CC on Saturday to open NWAC North Region play.

Everett broke a scoreless tie in the opener when they tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth; the Trojans added two more in the sixth. The Tritons pushed two runs across in the top of the eighth inning when Connor Bourbon singled with the bases juiced but Everett held on for the 4-2 win. Cameron Hougham was 2-for-4 with a double in the fifth, and single in the seventh. The two teams combined to muster just 7 hits in the game

Starter Kaden Lewis had his earliest exit of the season, going 3 2/3 innings, but he allowed no earned runs. Kade Coombe came on to relieve him and had his longest stint of the year, hurling the final 4 1/3 innings, giving up just one earned run.

In game two Edmonds (15-9, 1-1 North) plated two runs in the top of the first, and that proved to be enough as they outlasted Everett (14-10, 1-1 North) 2-1 to earn a split on the road. Taku Kataoka drew a walk to start the game and later scored on a wild pitch. Connor Bourbon, who was 2-for-2 in the nightcap, was responsible for what ended up being the winning run when he had an RBI groundout to shortstop. Tatsuya Uemoto continued his consistency on the bump, holding the Trojans to just one run in seven innings of work. He scattered eight hits and fanned eight batters to notch his fifth win of the year. Freshman righty Josh Flaugher shut the door, striking out three in the final two frames to earn the save.

It’s the first time in recent memory the two North Region baseball behemoths have faced off this early in the regional slate. The series now shifts to Triton Field on Sunday, although the forecast is calling for rain. Stay tuned for any changes due to the weather by following Triton Athletics on Twitter @EdmondsTritons
