Edmonds men's hoops disposes Walla Walla in tourney opener

PASCO, Wash. – Edmonds College men's basketball opened the NWAC Championship Tournament with a 85-76 triumph over third-ranked Walla Walla CC and will advance to the Elite 8 on Saturday.

Chris Lee dropped a game-high 28 points
The Tritons were successful in pushing the pace, especially in the first stanza, and controlled much of the contest. Walla Walla made multiple runs bolstered by their three-point shooting -- and in the second half cut the deficit to just one point -- but Chris Lee responded with two consecutive treys to put the Tritons back in front for good.

Down the stretch, Chris Lee and Caleb Anglin both sank two free throws apiece to keep the lead in tact.

Lee finished with 28 points, shooting 50% from the field. Caleb Anglin came up with a few key defensive stops and contributed a double-double off the bench with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Elyon Zevenbergen held the Warriors' strong interior game in check and registered a double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) as well.

Edmonds (20-7, 9-5 North) squares off with South Region champion and one-seed Clackamas CC (22-8, 13-3 South) on Saturday at 2 p.m. In their first round matchup the Cougars trailed by as many as 13 points, but made a furious second half comeback and rallied to defeat South Puget Sound CC.
