Triton alum Antionette Watson named Interim Head Coach of Edmonds Softball

LYNNWOOD — Former Triton standout catcher Antionette Watson has been named as the Interim Head Coach of the Edmonds College softball program.

Watson, who returned to the dugout this season as the Associate Head Coach, has been elevated to interim head coach after Grizz Stevens recently stepped down for personal reasons.

“We appreciate everything Grizz did the past two seasons. He worked extremely hard and leaves the program in a great place,” said athletic director Spencer Stark.

Watson's first stint with the program was as an assistant coach in 2018-19 when the team reached the NWAC Championship Game. Watson prepped at Kamiak High School and played for multiple travel teams including the Woodinville Reign, Slam Fastpitch, Blaze Fastpitch, and the Washington Hurricanes. As a Triton player, Watson was a two-year team captain, team MVP, and a 1st-Team North Region catcher, batting over .400.

Watson moved on to play at Notre Dame de Namur University, an NCAA DII school, and was selected team captain at NDNU in 2017-18. She graduated from California Baptist University in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and now dedicates her time building catchers and the game of softball in the Pacific Northwest while working full time in the Aviation and Aerospace Industry. Watson founded Home Plate Performance, which specializes in catcher’s defensive development.

“Assistant athletic director Rey Corujo and I are extremely excited about Ant stepping up to lead a program that she’s very passionate about. She will connect with each player individually, has the ability to motivate, and will be a blast to play for,” said athletic director Spencer Stark.

The program is looking to bolster the roster with a few more players, which includes five returners and a solid group of incoming freshmen, and there is now an assistant coach position available. Fall ball starts September 5th with three games scheduled against Wenatchee Valley College, Centralia College, and a meeting with former Triton skipper Sheryl Gilmore at Western Washington University.

Coach Ant can be reached by cell phone (425-737-9841) and email at antionette.watson@edmonds.edu
